WHM Wood Hammer Mill
Fine grinding for wood chips, sawdust and pre-sized biomass. Proudly made in Lebanon.
The Mechaniqua WHM Series is designed to reduce pre-sized wood and biomass into finer material for pellet preparation and other processing applications.
The WHM uses a rotating hammer system to break down material through impact. A replaceable screen controls the discharge opening, allowing the machine to be configured according to the required material size.
With more hammers than a comparable WCHM model, the WHM focuses on secondary grinding. Incoming material must already be appropriately sized for the grinding chamber.

Logs, large branches and oversized wood pieces require initial cutting or crushing before entering the WHM. For these materials, consider the Mechaniqua WCHM or a suitable upstream chipper.
Remove nails, screws, stones and other foreign objects before processing. Contact Mechaniqua before using unusual, contaminated or treated materials.
How It Works

Smaller screen openings generally produce finer material while reducing production capacity. The screen does not guarantee identical particle dimensions, particularly with fibrous materials.

Capacities are approximate selection guidelines. Actual output depends on material type, density, moisture, incoming dimensions, screen opening, feeding consistency, hammer condition and available drive power.
Fine screens, including 3 mm screens, can significantly reduce throughput. The figures above are not guaranteed production rates through a 3 mm screen. Engine and PTO performance must be confirmed for the selected configuration.
Screen Selection and Pellet Preparation
The WHM can prepare suitably sized biomass for downstream pellet production.
- Smaller screen openings: finer grinding, generally with lower throughput.
- Larger screen openings: coarser output, generally with higher throughput.
- Pellet preparation: a 3 mm screen may be suitable where the pellet machine requires finely prepared feedstock.
Select the screen together with the required production rate and downstream equipment. Grinding does not replace drying; material moisture must remain suitable for the intended process.

Starting Systems

A VFD does not increase the motor’s rated power or compensate for an undersized electrical supply. Operate only within the machine-speed range specified by Mechaniqua.

380V Three-Phase Versions
The following values are preliminary planning guidance for DOL and star-delta installations.
Cable examples assume copper conductors, PVC insulation, one ungrouped surface-clipped cable, approximately 30°C ambient temperature and a cable route up to approximately 25 metres.

²Breaker ratings are preliminary candidates, not motor overload settings. Final selection must consider starting performance, trip characteristics, fault-breaking capacity and coordination with the cable and motor protection.
³4G means three phase conductors plus protective earth. Add a neutral conductor where required by the supplied control panel. These examples concern the incoming supply to the machine panel, not the motor leads from a star-delta starter.
A qualified electrician must verify the final installation. Longer runs, enclosed installation, grouped cables, higher temperatures and voltage-drop requirements may require larger conductors. Installed motor and control-panel specifications take priority.
WHM250 — 220V Single-Phase VFD Version
This configuration uses a suitable VFD to operate a three-phase motor from a 220V single-phase supply.

A dedicated supply is required. This version is not suitable for a standard 16 A household socket.
The 220V DOL version requires separate sizing according to its installed motor.
VFD and Motor Protection Requirements
For VFD-equipped machines, input cable and breaker selection must follow the actual drive’s rated input current and manufacturer requirements. Motor current alone is insufficient to size the VFD supply.
Motor overload protection must match the installed motor and starter arrangement. Maintain proper earthing, isolation and ventilation around the motor and control panel.
If the motor repeatedly overheats or exceeds its permitted continuous current, reduce feeding and investigate the cause before continuing production.
Generator and Solar Operation
Compatibility depends on voltage, phases, continuous supply capacity, starting capability and other connected loads.
Motor kW alone is insufficient to size a generator or solar inverter. Provide Mechaniqua with the supply equipment specifications so the appropriate configuration can be assessed.
Gasoline and Diesel Versions
Fuel-powered models are available for locations without an adequate electrical supply.

Combustion engines must operate outdoors, away from enclosed working areas and building air intakes.

Tractor engine horsepower differs from available PTO horsepower. Final compatibility depends on available PTO power, operating speed, transmission ratio, material and required throughput.
PTO shaft, coupling, mounting, guarding and operating-speed requirements are confirmed for the selected machine.

Choose WHM when your material is already appropriately sized for hammer grinding. Choose WCHM when initial cutting is required.
Operation and Maintenance
- Start with the grinding chamber clear.
- Allow the rotor to reach its specified operating speed before feeding.
- Feed progressively and adjust the rate to the material, screen and available power.
- Keep screens and discharge paths clear.
- Inspect hammers, screens, belts and bearings regularly.
- Follow the supplied lubrication and maintenance instructions.
- Keep guards fitted during operation.
- Stop, isolate and wait for the rotor to stop completely before opening, cleaning or servicing the machine.
