WCHM Wood Crusher Hammer Mill with Cyclone Dust Collector
From branches and wood offcuts to finely ground biomass — with cyclone collection. Made in Lebanon.
The Mechaniqua WCHM Series combines a cutting disc fitted with blades, a hammer-grinding system and a cyclone collection system. The blades cut incoming branches and larger wood pieces, while the hammers reduce the material further before it passes through the installed screen.
The ground material travels through the discharge duct to the cyclone, where separated material exits through the bottom outlet for collection or further handling.
This combined process produces material finer than conventional wood chips, making the WCHM suitable for wood-waste reduction and preparation for further biomass processing.
Available in five sizes from 11 kW to 55 kW, this configuration operates exclusively on 380V three-phase power, with star-delta or VFD starting.
Key Features
- Cutting and grinding in one machine: cutting blades perform primary size reduction, followed by hammer grinding.
- Cyclone collection system: separates ground material from the conveying air for collection at the cyclone outlet.
- Replaceable screens: select the screen opening to suit the required material and application.
- Five models: electric motor sizes from 11 kW to 55 kW.
- 380V three-phase operation: available with star-delta or VFD starting.
- Serviceable wear components: replaceable blades, hammers and screens.
- Manufactured in Lebanon: local support, servicing and spare parts from Mechaniqua.
How the WCHM with Cyclone Works
| Processing stage | Function |
|---|---|
| 1. Cutting | Blades mounted on the cutting disc cut branches and larger wood pieces into smaller sections. |
| 2. Hammer grinding | Rotating hammers further reduce the material through impact. |
| 3. Screening | Reduced material passes through the installed screen. |
| 4. Conveying | The blower and discharge duct transfer the ground material to the cyclone. |
| 5. Cyclone separation | The cyclone separates material from the conveying air and discharges it through the bottom outlet. |
The screen influences the final particle size. Smaller openings generally produce finer material but reduce throughput. Particle shape and dimensions also depend on the wood’s fibre structure, moisture and operating conditions.
A cyclone does not guarantee dust-free exhaust. Fine dust may remain in the outlet air; additional filtration may be required where fine-dust control is necessary. Dust containment also depends on sealed duct connections and the collection arrangement beneath the cyclone.
Suitable Materials
- Tree branches and pruning waste.
- Small logs within the selected model’s feed-size limits.
- Wood offcuts and appropriately sized timber pieces.
- Wood chips.
- Clean agricultural wood waste and similar woody biomass.
Material must fit safely through the inlet and remain within the machine’s operating limits. Remove nails, screws, stones and other foreign objects before processing.
The inlet opening is not the same as the recommended maximum branch diameter. Contact Mechaniqua before processing unusual, contaminated or treated materials.
Model Specifications
| Model | Electric motor | Approximate production capacity* | Recommended maximum branch diameter* |
|---|---|---|---|
| WCHM420 | 11 kW | 250–450 kg/h | 70 mm |
| WCHM500 | 15 kW | 350–650 kg/h | 90 mm |
| WCHM600 | 22 kW | 500–900 kg/h | 110 mm |
| WCHM800 | 30 kW | 700–1,200 kg/h | 140 mm |
| WCHM1000 | 55 kW | 1,200–2,200 kg/h | 180 mm |
Performance figures are approximate selection guidelines. Actual output depends on wood species, hardness, moisture, incoming dimensions, screen opening, feeding consistency, component condition and the complete discharge and collection arrangement.
Maximum branch diameter represents an upper feed-size guideline, not continuous production at that diameter. Hard, dense, wet or irregular wood may require smaller feed sizes.
Motor ratings shown refer to the main machine motor. Blower arrangement, any separate blower motor and total connected power are confirmed in the technical quotation.
Screen Selection and Pellet Preparation
Select the screen according to the required output and the next processing stage.
| Requirement | Screen-selection guidance |
|---|---|
| Finer ground material | Smaller openings, generally with reduced production capacity. |
| Coarser material | Larger openings, generally allowing higher throughput. |
| Pellet-machine feedstock | A 3 mm screen may be suitable where finely prepared material is required. Confirm compatibility with the pellet machine. |
Grinding and cyclone collection do not replace drying. Material moisture must be appropriate for the downstream process.
Electric Drive Options
All models in this configuration require 380V three-phase power.

| WCHM500 — 15 kW | ✓ | ✓ |

Choosing a Starting System
| Starting system | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Star-Delta | Reduces initial starting current and starting torque. Requires a compatible motor and sufficient torque to accelerate the unloaded rotor. |
| VFD — Variable-Frequency Drive | Provides controlled acceleration and adjustable operating settings. Selected and configured according to the motor and machine requirements. |
A VFD does not increase the motor’s rated power or replace the need for an adequately sized electricity supply. Machine speed must remain within the operating range specified by Mechaniqua.
Electrical Installation
Electrical supply cables, breakers and motor protection must be selected according to the installed motor, starting system, control panel and any separately powered blower.
For VFD-equipped machines, input cables and protective devices must be selected using the actual drive’s rated input current and manufacturer requirements.
Final cable sizes and protection must be verified by a qualified electrician. Cable length, installation method, ambient temperature, cable grouping and voltage drop affect the required conductor size.
Maintain suitable earthing, isolation and ventilation around the motor and control panel. Installed equipment specifications take priority over preliminary planning values.
Generator and Solar Compatibility
Generator and solar-inverter compatibility must be assessed against:
- 380V three-phase supply requirements.
- Continuous output capacity.
- Motor-starting capability and selected starter.
- Total connected power, including any separate blower motor.
- Other equipment operating on the same supply.
Motor kW alone is not sufficient to select a generator or solar inverter. Provide Mechaniqua with the supply equipment specifications before ordering.
Cyclone Collection and Discharge
The collection arrangement beneath the cyclone must suit the material, production rate and downstream process.
Cyclone dimensions, duct routing, blower specifications, collection connections and any additional filtration are confirmed for the selected configuration.
Keep the cyclone outlet and discharge path clear. The collection container or downstream equipment must allow continuous discharge without material accumulating inside the cyclone.
Where enclosed dust collection is required, the outlet sealing and collection arrangement must be specified as part of the system.
WCHM or WHM?
| Feature | WCHM — Wood Crusher Hammer Mill | WHM — Wood Hammer Mill |
|---|---|---|
| Processing system | Cutting disc with blades and hammers | Hammer-grinding system |
| Typical incoming material | Branches, offcuts and larger wood pieces | Pre-sized wood chips and suitable reduced biomass |
| Main purpose | Primary cutting followed by grinding | Grinding material already reduced to a suitable feed size |
| Hammer arrangement | Combines hammers with the cutting system | More hammers for a comparable machine size |
Choose WCHM when your material requires initial cutting before grinding. Choose WHM when the material is already appropriately sized for hammer milling.
Operation and Maintenance
- Start with the grinding chamber clear and allow the rotor to reach its specified operating speed.
- Feed material progressively and consistently.
- Adjust feeding to the material, screen opening and available power.
- Keep the screen, ducts and cyclone discharge path clear.
- Inspect blades, hammers, belts, bearings and duct connections regularly.
- Follow the supplied lubrication and maintenance instructions.
- Keep guards fitted during operation.
- Stop, isolate and wait for all rotating components to come to a complete standstill before opening, cleaning or servicing the system.
