WHM Wood Hammer Mill with Cyclone Dust Collector
Fine grinding for wood chips, sawdust and pre-sized biomass — with cyclone collection. Proudly made in Lebanon.
The Mechaniqua WHM Series combines a dedicated hammer-grinding system with cyclone collection to prepare pre-sized wood and biomass for pellet production and other processing applications.
Rotating hammers break down material through repeated impact. A replaceable screen controls the discharge opening, allowing the machine to be configured according to the required grinding application.
The ground material travels through the discharge duct to the cyclone, where separated material exits through the bottom outlet for collection or further handling.
With more hammers than a comparable WCHM model, the WHM focuses on secondary grinding. Incoming material must already be appropriately sized for the grinding chamber.
Available in five sizes from 11 kW to 55 kW, this configuration operates exclusively on 380V three-phase power, with star-delta or VFD starting.
Key Features
- Dedicated hammer-grinding system: designed for pre-sized wood and suitable biomass.
- Cyclone collection system: separates ground material from the conveying air for collection at the cyclone outlet.
- Replaceable screens: select the screen opening according to the grinding requirement.
- Five models: electric motor sizes from 11 kW to 55 kW.
- 380V three-phase operation: available with star-delta or VFD starting.
- Serviceable wear components: replaceable hammers and screens.
- Manufactured in Lebanon: local servicing and spare-parts support from Mechaniqua.
Suitable Materials
| Material | Preparation requirements |
|---|---|
| Wood chips | Appropriately sized for the selected model. |
| Small wood pieces | Within the machine’s approved feed dimensions. |
| Coarse sawdust | Where further particle-size reduction is required. |
| Leaves and straw | Suitability and preparation confirmed for the application. |
| Dry agricultural residues | Clean, appropriately prepared material. |
| Pre-shredded biomass | Consistent feeding and suitable screen selection. |
Logs, large branches and oversized wood pieces require initial cutting or crushing before entering the WHM. For these materials, consider the Mechaniqua WCHM or a suitable upstream chipper.
Remove nails, screws, stones and other foreign objects before processing. Contact Mechaniqua before using unusual, contaminated or treated materials.
How the WHM with Cyclone Works
| Stage | Process |
|---|---|
| 1. Feeding | Pre-sized material enters the grinding chamber at a controlled rate. |
| 2. Hammer grinding | Rotating hammers reduce the material through repeated impact. |
| 3. Screening | Material passes through the installed screen when sufficiently reduced. |
| 4. Conveying | The blower and discharge duct transfer the ground material to the cyclone. |
| 5. Cyclone separation | The cyclone separates material from the conveying air and discharges it through the bottom outlet. |
Smaller screen openings generally produce finer material while reducing production capacity. The screen does not guarantee identical particle dimensions, particularly with fibrous materials.
A cyclone does not guarantee dust-free exhaust. Fine dust may remain in the outlet air; additional filtration may be required where fine-dust control is necessary. Dust containment also depends on sealed duct connections and the collection arrangement beneath the cyclone.
Model Specifications
| Model | Electric motor | Approximate production capacity* | Typical application |
|---|---|---|---|
| WHM420 | 11 kW | 300–500 kg/h | Commercial grinding |
| WHM500 | 15 kW | 400–700 kg/h | Professional biomass processing |
| WHM600 | 22 kW | 600–1,000 kg/h | Higher-volume production |
| WHM800 | 30 kW | 800–1,400 kg/h | Industrial processing |
| WHM1000 | 55 kW | 1,500–2,500 kg/h | Large-scale production |
Capacities are approximate selection guidelines. Actual output depends on material type, density, moisture, incoming dimensions, screen opening, feeding consistency, hammer condition and the complete discharge and collection arrangement.
Fine screens, including 3 mm screens, can significantly reduce throughput. The figures above are not guaranteed production rates through a 3 mm screen.
Motor ratings shown refer to the main machine motor. Blower arrangement, any separate blower motor and total connected power are confirmed in the technical quotation.
Screen Selection and Pellet Preparation
The WHM can prepare suitably sized biomass for downstream pellet production.
| Requirement | Screen-selection guidance |
|---|---|
| Finer ground material | Smaller openings, generally with lower throughput. |
| Coarser material | Larger openings, generally allowing higher throughput. |
| Pellet-machine feedstock | A 3 mm screen may be suitable where finely prepared material is required. Confirm compatibility with the pellet machine. |
Select the screen together with the required production rate and downstream equipment.
Grinding and cyclone collection do not replace drying. Material moisture must remain suitable for the intended process.
Electric Drive Options
All models in this configuration require 380V three-phase power.
| Model | 380V star-delta | 380V VFD |
|---|---|---|
| WHM420 — 11 kW | ✓ | ✓ |
| WHM500 — 15 kW | ✓ | ✓ |
| WHM600 — 22 kW | ✓ | ✓ |
| WHM800 — 30 kW | ✓ | ✓ |

Choosing a Starting System
| Starting system | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Star-Delta | Reduces initial starting current and starting torque. Requires a compatible motor and sufficient torque to accelerate the unloaded rotor. |
| VFD — Variable-Frequency Drive | Provides controlled acceleration and adjustable operating settings, configured for the motor and machine. |
A VFD does not increase the motor’s rated power or compensate for an undersized electrical supply. Operate only within the machine-speed range specified by Mechaniqua.
Electrical Supply and Installation
Electrical supply cables, breakers and motor protection must be selected according to the installed motor, starting system, control panel and any separately powered blower.
For VFD-equipped machines, input cables and protective devices must follow the actual drive’s rated input current and manufacturer requirements. Motor current alone is insufficient to size the VFD supply circuit.
A qualified electrician must verify the final installation. Cable length, installation method, ambient temperature, cable grouping and voltage drop affect the required conductor size.
Maintain proper earthing, isolation and ventilation around the motor and control panel. Installed equipment specifications take priority over preliminary planning values.
If the motor repeatedly overheats or exceeds its permitted continuous current, reduce feeding and investigate the cause before continuing production.
Generator and Solar Compatibility
Compatibility must be assessed against:
- 380V three-phase supply requirements.
- Continuous output capacity.
- Motor-starting capability and selected starter.
- Total connected power, including any separate blower motor.
- Other equipment operating on the same supply.
Motor kW alone is insufficient to size a generator or solar inverter. Provide Mechaniqua with the supply equipment specifications before ordering.
Cyclone Collection and Discharge
The collection arrangement beneath the cyclone must suit the material, production rate and downstream process.
Cyclone dimensions, duct routing, blower specifications, collection connections and any additional filtration are confirmed for the selected configuration.
Keep the cyclone outlet and discharge path clear. The collection container or downstream equipment must allow continuous discharge without material accumulating inside the cyclone.
Where enclosed dust collection is required, the outlet sealing and collection arrangement must be specified as part of the system.
WHM or WCHM?
| Feature | WHM — Wood Hammer Mill | WCHM — Wood Crusher Hammer Mill |
|---|---|---|
| Processing system | Hammer grinding | Cutting disc with blades and hammers |
| Incoming material | Pre-sized chips and suitable reduced biomass | Branches and larger pieces within the model’s limits |
| Main function | Secondary grinding | Primary cutting followed by grinding |
| Hammer arrangement | More hammers for a comparable machine size | Hammers combined with a cutting system |
Choose WHM when your material is already appropriately sized for hammer grinding. Choose WCHM when initial cutting is required.
